Plans to renovate a valuable community resource in a Shropshire village are set to become a reality thanks to support from Homes Plus.
The refurbishment of Condover Village Sports Ground pavilion was put on hold during the Covid-19 pandemic and, despite successful fundraising by the local community, rising construction costs meant further delays to the project.
Now Homes Plus has stepped in to meet the shortfall through our My Community Fund, enabling Condover Village Sports Ground, to press ahead with plans to extend its tearoom, refurbish changing facilities, and create a level path and patio area.
The sports ground also hosts a wide range of other activities catering for both children and adults and has already received funding from the national cricket body, the ECB, as well as Shropshire Council and local businesses. However, the support from Homes Plus has provided another welcome boost.
Scott Drummond from Condover Village Sports Ground, explained: “To enable us to make these vital changes we asked local people and companies for donations towards our grand total, and we’re very grateful to Homes Plus for stepping in and helping us to get closer to the finishing line.
“The pitch is used by local people and various sports clubs, including Shrewsbury Football Club, and this generous donation will benefit the entire community.”
Samantha Allcott, Director of Housing for Homes Plus, commented: “Homes Plus is about more than homes – that’s why it’s Homes Plus. We are committed to supporting communities to achieve better health and better lives and we recognise the huge contribution grass roots sports make to our communities.
“We wish everyone associated with Condover Village Sports Ground the best of luck, both on and off the field!”
